About the event

The Episcopal Church in Wyoming is excited to announce a unique and powerful event, "Juneteenth in July." This special Zoom gathering will take place on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at 6:30 PM. It will feature our Alabama Social Justice & Racial Reconciliation pilgrims as they share their transformative journey through key sites of the Civil Rights Movement.

Juneteenth, celebrated annually on June 19th, commemorates the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States. Although this significant day has recently become a federal holiday, our church has chosen to extend the celebration to July to allow ample time for preparation and discussion. This event will not only highlight the historical significance of Juneteenth but also delve into the ongoing pursuit of equal justice and racial reconciliation.

During this event, our pilgrims will recount their profound experiences visiting the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) Legacy Museum, the National Memorial for Peace and Justice, the Edmund Pettus Bridge, and other critical landmarks. These firsthand accounts will provide attendees with a deeper understanding of America's complex past, the resilience of those who fought for civil rights, and the importance of truth-telling and reconciliation in our society.

"Juneteenth in July" aims to educate and inspire. Participants will gain insights into the historical and contemporary issues of racial justice, hear personal stories of transformation, and learn how they can contribute to creating a more just and equitable community. The event will also offer resources and suggestions for further engagement, including information on voting rights, educational readings, and ways to join Sacred Ground Circles.

We invite everyone to join us for this enlightening and impactful event. Together, let's honor the legacy of Juneteenth, reflect on our shared history, and commit to building a beloved community rooted in justice and reconciliation.

Mark your calendars for July 31st at 6:30 PM, and join us on Zoom for an evening of learning, reflection, and inspiration. To participate, please use the following link: [Zoom Link Here]. We look forward to seeing you there!
